I wasted far too much gold making Flawless Topaz for gear I replaced two Torment sessions later. The tempting mistake is treating every socket as a permanent upgrade. 2. Use armor Topaz to reach Intelligence needs before replacing strong existing defenses.

Flawless Topaz remains reliable through regular Torment content because its value is direct and predictable. Horadric gems become more attractive when your gear, aspects, and Paragon board are already settled and you are pushing high Pit tiers or refining a serious PVP setup. Their special effects can outperform a plain stat bonus, but only when the rest of the build supports them. Replacing every standard gem early often produces a smaller gain than fixing one weak defensive roll or improving resource sustain.
For practical farming, keep several Flawless Topaz ready rather than committing every copy immediately. Swap weapon Topaz in when your Basic Skill handles most of the route, and move toward specialized sockets when your late-game rotation no longer relies on it.
